On the afternoon of March 18th, the large-scale activity of “Setting Sail for CCNU, Meeting the Future” career experience day was held in Boya Square. Yang Jun, Deputy Director of Office of Students Affairs and Director of Student Affairs Department Office, Lang Dongpeng, Deputy Director of Student Affairs Department Office, Rao Yanping, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of College of Urban and Environmental Sciences, Liu Feng, teacher of Office of Students Affairs, Lu Wen, counsellor of College of Urban and Environmental Sciences, participated in the activity. Though it rained continuously, the atmosphere was very warm. Teams and individuals from all 23 colleges, nearly 200 students, experienced the activity. With the assistance of College of Urban and Environmental Sciences, Office of Students Affairs hosted the activity.

The activity integrated various elements of career planning into ten on-site experience areas from four aspects: self-cognition, exploration of outside career world, goal decision and action planning. Through interesting games, students had understandings of their career planning, determined their development directions in the future and established correct outlooks on career development.

In the self-recognition segment, students learned more about themselves through the Holland Career Interest Assessment, MAP Career Personality Assessment, Value Scales and others’ stories of achievements. In the “Walking Label” experience area, students not only recalled their personal stories of achievements, but also heard lots of others’ sharing. Students all praised excellent students for their clear goals and good time management skills, and they were also determined to move upward in the future.

During the exploration of outside career world, through board games, students understood more about industries and companies. In the exhibition shed of the Workplace Intelligence Bureau, students communicated with front-line workers face to face to learn about the real world of work, including civil servants, teachers, enterprise HR, marketing executives, civilian staff and developers.

In the segment of goal decision, through experiencing “So that’s it” and “The future self”, students learned how to use SWOT analysis and decision balance sheets. Students said that they had heard of the two tools before, but it was their first time to have an in-depth understanding of how to use them.
In the final "JUST DO IT" section, students imagined what they will be like a year later and wrote a letter to their current self. A classmate who participated in the activity said:”There is still a lot of difference between what I hope I will become a year later and what I am now. I’ll spend a year to shorten this gap. It seems like a long time, but it's not long anymore. When I go back, I need to start taking action.”

Ms. Chen Qingiqng, a human resource expert from JOBS, also gave some suggestions to students looking for jobs. She said that career planning will accompany us throughout our lives. Exploring ourselves in advance during college and understanding the external career world could help us find the career direction after graduation, and thus have a gratifying future. And she hoped that students can get inspirations and grow though the interesting games on Career Experience Day.
