The Voice of CCNU On the morning of July 23rd, the 2023 summer training course for counselors of Ningxia University, sponsored by Ningxia University and organized by the Training Center for Ideological and Political Work Teams of Universities under the Ministry of Education (CCNU) and the Office of Student Affairs, was held at our school. Huang He, Standing Committee Member of the Party Committee of and Vice President of Ningxia University, Chen Diming, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of CCNU, the head of the Ideological and Political Department of the Office of Student Affairs of CCNU, and trainees from Ningxia University attended the Class Opening Ceremony. The ceremony was chaired by Li Diao, Deputy Minister of the Office of Student Affairs and Director of the Ideological and Political Department.
Chen Diming, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of CCNU delivered a welcoming speech. He stressed that counselors are the backbone of ideological and political education for college students, shouldering the important mission of educating people for the Party and the country, thus this training is significant and far-reaching. He briefly introduced the teaching force, cultural resources and platform qualifications of CCNU. He hoped trainees to adhere to ideological guidance and comprehensively and systematically learning deeply, to strengthen linkage and exchange ideas, to base on the main contradiction and connect with reality to solve problems. He also hoped trainees to strive to spread advanced ideological and cultural values, to become staunch supporters of the Party's governance, and prepare students for their brilliant futures.
Huang He, Standing Committee Member of the Party Committee of and Vice President of Ningxia University, had made specific requirements for the trainees: to firmly uphold their ideals and beliefs, to learn and do truly, and to bravely shoulder heavy responsibilities; to clear learning objectives, to enhance their skills, and to promote their development; to raise political stance, to observe strict discipline, and to attend training on time. He pointed out that counselors play an important role in carrying out ideological and political education for students in the central work of cultivating morality and talents in higher education institutions, thus they should pay attention to playing an important role and exerting due value. He also hoped that this training can strengthen the construction of the counselor team of Ningxia University and improve it’s comprehensive quality, build a counselor team with characters like strong politics, elaborate business, strict principle and correct style, further promote the deepening and implementation of theme education.
After the Class Opening Ceremony, Li Diao gave a special report on Crisis Management and Response among College Students in the New Era. Combined with General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important discourses, profound changes unseen in a century, and the new characteristics of contemporary college students, he analyzed the severe situation of education management among college students in the new era. Around the six main types of crisis events among college students in the new era, he shared the management thinking of crisis events and proposed corresponding principles. Through relevant cases, he exchanged and shared the experience.
On the afternoon of July 24th, the trainees came to Huazhong Agricultural University to learn and exchange. Around Practical Exploration of Innovative Ideological and Political Work in Universities, Zhu Xin, the Most Beautiful Counselor in China in 2022 and Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of College of Science of Huazhong Agricultural University, did a theme sharing. Starting from her own work experience, she discussed the innovative development of ideological and political education work. Subsequently trainees visited Zhuxin Studio and the “one-stop” student community together, which provided ideas and references for the construction and development of the counselor team studio of Ningxia University. In the end, all the trainees visited the Huazhong Agricultural University Museum to appreciate the cultural charm of the HAU campus and strengthen inter-school exchanges and mutual learning.
On the morning of July 25th, Wang Li, a counselor at School of Foreign Languages, gave a special report titled “Mutual Promotion between Scientific Research Work and Student Work of College Counselors”. By analyzing the relationship between student work and scientific research, she elaborated on the internal mechanism of mutual promotion between student work and scientific research work of college counselors. She elucidated the practical characteristics of the mutual promotion between student work and scientific research work of college counselors from multiple perspectives such as mutual promotion policies, awareness of student work issues, and training guidance. She also proposed a path to achieve the mutual promotion between student work and scientific research work of college counselors.
Li Qin, Director of the Student Affairs Department of the Party Committee of Wuhan University, made a report titled “The Mission and Responsibility of College Counselors in the New Era”. He analyzed the situation and tasks of higher education in the new era from three levels: the new situation of the development environment, the new tasks of higher education, and the new needs of students. He conducted connotation interpretation and case analysis on key contents such as “Three Comprehensive Education”, “One-Stop Park Dormitory”, and “New Generation Casting Project”. He also proposed that counselors should construct a grand ideological and political pattern and achieve role transformation to form the “new six skills” of counselors in practical work.
On the afternoon of July 25th, all the trainees visited the “one-stop” student community of CCNU accompanied by Chen Zhi, a staff member of the Office of Student Affairs. He introduced our school's pattern of student community work, and conducted in-depth exchanges and discussions with the trainees.
Subsequently, all the members went to the National Confidentiality Education and Training Base Wuhan Base to get on-site teaching. Through the explanation of the instructor, trainees mastered the requirements of confidentiality laws, regulations, and policies, and further enhanced their awareness and ability of security and confidentiality prevention.
On the morning of July 26th, Professor Wan Meirong, Dean of School of Marxism and Doctoral supervisor, gave a special report titled “Deepening the Study of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s Important Discourses and Accelerating the Construction of the Ideological and Political Work System in Universities”. He summarized the significant value, main content, and core essence of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important discourses on education. By explaining the composition of the ideological and political work system in universities in the new era, he proposed five perspectives for the construction of ideological and political work in universities in the new era: grasping the core, grasping the main line, constructing mechanisms, strengthening leadership, and strengthening guarantees.
Professor Guo Lan from the Student Mental Health Center of China University of Geosciences (Wuhan) gave a special report on “Identification and Intervention of Psychological Crisis”. She introduced the criteria for judging psychological crisis from its types, manifestations, triggering factors, and other aspects. She focused on analyzing high-risk factors, symptom information, misunderstandings of suicide, and proposed methods to identify and intervene in psychological crisis. In response to situations where the intervenor may develop alternative trauma, she shared self-regulatory methods.
On the afternoon of July 26th, with the theme of “Professionalism and Specialization of Counselors”, trainees were divided into three groups to deliver speeches and have group discussions in sequence based on the course content and their personal thoughts of this training class .
After the discussion, all trainees collectively visited the History Museum of CCNU to have a in-depth understanding of its development in the hundred years and experience the campus spirit and culture.
Hereto, the 2023 summer training course for counselors of Ningxia University had come to a successful conclusion. The head of the Ideological and Political Department of the Office of Student Affairs and all trainees attended the graduation ceremony. The ceremony was presided over by Li Diao, Deputy Minister of the Office of Student Affairs and Director of the Ideological and Political Department.
At the graduation ceremony, Wang Yali, a counselor at Boya College of Ningxia University, Shi Dong, a counselor at Dingxin College, and Wang Yanmei, deputy dean of Shangde College, delivered speeches as representatives of the trainees.
Wang Yali said that this training was interspersed with theory and practice, and was mixed with observation and reflection, providing counselors with the opportunity to “recharge” their thinking. She was determined to strive to become a leader withdeep thinking, a warm growth companion, and a innovative front-line deep-cultivator.
Shi Dong said that it was the warm and considerate support and service provided by CCNU that made him deeply realize the warmth of “All students and workers are of one family.” He was determined to promote himself and then contribute to the “Double First-Class” construction and connotative development of Ningxia University, and strive to create a new pattern of ideological and political work in the school.
Wang Yanmei shared around four aspects: strengthening theoretical learning, enhancing professional abilities, achieving team empowerment, and innovating work concepts. She pointed out that counselors should always adhere to the correct political direction, continuously work hard in cultivating students, and develop towards professionalism and specialization.
Zheng Yi, Vice Minister (Deputy Director) of the Student Affairs Department (Student Office) of the Party Committee of Ningxia University, expressed his gratitude to CCNU in his concluding speech. He was grateful that there was valuable opportunities, patient and meticulous services, substantial training content in CCNU so that trainees can benefit a lot. He pointed out that this training focused on the new requirements, goals, and journey of ideological and political work for college students in the new era, and followed General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important discourse on education. He hoped that all trainees can guide more students to consciously invest their personal ideals and pursuits into the cause of the country and the nation with an efficient and pragmatic work spirit, rigorous and meticulous academic attitude, and honest and simple lifestyle.
It is reported that the Ministry of Education approved the construction of Training Center for Ideological and Political Work Teams of Universities under the Ministry of Education (CCNU) in 2019. For many years, under the guidance of the Department of Ideological and Political Affairs of the Ministry of Education, CCNU has collaborated with the Education Working Committee of the Hubei Provincial Party Committee to jointly build the training center and strictly follow the Construction Standards for Training Centers for Ideological and Political Work Teams of Universities. A work pattern with first-class discipline support, strong teaching staff, rich practical achievements, mature training platforms, abundant educational resources, and superior guarantee conditions has gradually been formed. A talent incubation base and high-end academic think tank for the professional, specialized, and expert development of high-level national level ideological and political work teams with high visibility has continuously been built.
