In order to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China and the 90th anniversary of the sacrifice of Yun Daiying, and to celebrate the “Foreign Language and Culture Festival of the seven universities in Central China”, the Youth League Committee of the School of Foreign Languages of CCNU held a series of poetry activities with the theme of “Sailing before the wind with the spirit of the Red Boat” from April to May. Against the background of the “100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China”, the activities aimed to strengthen students' ideological and political education and revolutionary tradition education as well as further stimulate the sense of patriotism, the love for the party and the belief in socialism, encouraging the youth to pass on the red genes, remember the original mission, and actively contribute to our new journey of socialism.
Among these activities, the original poetry competition of “Write Terza Rima · Commemorate Chinese History” led students to express their love for the party and the country in the form of “Terza Rima”, expressing their deepest love and the and gratitude in simple words. After the collection of works and the evaluation of Ke Xianbing, Lai Yan and Gan Qiong, three teachers of the English Department, a number of winners were finally selected. Among them, Xiao Xiaoyue, who majored in English in the grade of 2019 of the School of Foreign Languages, won the first prize. Liu Yuchen, who majored in translation in the grade of 2018 of the School of Foreign Languages, He Xinyu, who majored in mathematics and applied mathematics in the grade of 2020 of the School of Mathematics and Statistics and Xin Mingcan, who majored in translation in the grade of 2020 of the School of Foreign Languages won the second prize.
Xiao Xiaoyue combined her passion for the party with her love for English poetry and devoted herself to the poetry competition. On the premise of giving consideration to both content and form, she flexibly used her knowledge of English poetry and the century-long history of the party to write the short poem of three lines, with her deep understanding of the birth and development path of the party, which praised the significant historical status and political achievements of the party, and also expressed her sincere wishes to the party. "Love is the only way to enjoy it", Xiao Xiaoyue said. It was her passion for the party and the country, her familiarity with the history of the party and her love for poetry that led to her outstanding performance in the competition.
He Xinyu participated in the contest in his spare time because of her love for the party. Based on the deep understanding of the history of the party, she was inspired when she knew the theme of the competition, thus quickly finishing her work. She said that she was really surprised and delighted when she learned of the award. She expressed that the party had gone through countless hardships, struggles and sailed before the wind to achieve achievements, and what was more admirable was that the party's original aspiration never changed though 100 years went by. She sincerely wished the Communist Party of China a happy centenary and hoped that she could contribute her strength to the party's journey of getting better and better.
Asked about the inspiration, Liu Yuchen mentioned that over the past year, the party had gone through many trials and tribulations, but these trials did not lead this great political party to fall, but let it burst out new vitality. This reminded him of the petrel, the character created by the proletarian writer Maxim Gorky, who rose to the challenge, so he compared the party to the petrel and praised the party’s tenacious and vigorous vitality. “When we think about the difficulties the party had faced, the difficulties we are faced with in this era of harmony and stability are nothing,” said Liu Yuchen, “so we should cherish our time to unremittingly struggle.”
Xin Mingcan used her professional knowledge to complete her work on the theme of the birth of the party on the Red Boat. She said that the Communist Party of China was born on the Red Boat, and the ship of the Chinese revolution also set sail from here. Therefore, in her work, the Red Boat was chosen as the main body, and the flowers referred to the energetic youth of the Times, with the meaning that under the leadership of the Communist Party of China, the Chinese people are always marching towards the bright future in the past, at present and in the future. She believed that the centenary of the founding of the party provided an opportunity for young students to have an in-depth understanding of the history of the party and learn more about the spirit of the party. On the occasion of the party's centenary birthday, she sincerely wished the Communist Party of China a lasting and ever-better future.
The creation of the poetry with the spirit of the Red Boat is a long way, and the path of struggle is also long. The original poetry competition of “Write Terza Rima · Commemorate Chinese History” gave students a precious opportunity to express their true feelings and offer a grand ode to the party and the motherland. Additionally, the deep love and high respect for the party and the country contained in the three lines of poems will be the source of the power for the students to go forward in their pursuit of the glorious goals. It was reported that after the poem competition, the school would launch an English recitation contest with the theme of "Recite the Chapters, Understand the History of the Party" in the Youth Theatre of CCNU on the afternoon of May 9th, continuing the rich and colorful education activities of the history of the party.
