On 23 July, Jing Cheng’s Red Dream Summer Social Practice Team assisted the government of Qujiawan in Honghu city in the implement of the “Homeland of Hope”Unprofitable Project. This activity mainly aimed to guarantee the thrive of children living in the countryside, help them with their study, build the logical mode of thinking, enrich this summer vacation and provide assistance in the construction of the undeveloped areas.
Maths: Helps Building the Logical Mode of Thinking
For the inspiration of the logical thinking as well as a delighting learning process, the team members have absorbed the maths problems in the games, such as “24 points”and “little butterflies”, which would help the cultivation of mathematical thought, at the same time, the development of the interest in learning of the kids. Afterwards, the participants also taught them plenty of the application of the maths in the daily life, which surprised them a lot. In the process of counting, calculating and drawing the cards, the kids made to think spontaneously, keep exploring, meanwhile, put the theories into practice.

In this part, complex knowledge was combined with the most common conditions, which let the children learn in a relaxing atmosphere. They obtained the improvement of thinking ability as well as pleasure while these games, which not only motivated them to discover by their own and unlocked their potential, but also laid the foundation for the future learning, in the meantime, changed their understanding of maths to some degree.
Rubik’s Cube: Makes the Mathematical Theories Easier
After the research of our team members, they found that these kids settled in the countryside could rarely access to the intelligence toys, so they chose this kind of items, like Rubik’s cube and jigsaw puzzle, to conduct an interesting maths lesson, which was in order to inspire the creativity as well as imagination of the children, stimulate their varied sense organs and learn in an easier way with the help of the multimedia. The participants encouraged the kids to finish the splicing by their own, that would satisfy their needs of practical knowledge through such direct sense, actual operation and real experience.

In the process of the playing, the children immersed themselves in creating and restoring, which definitely not only enhanced their abilities of manipulation and thinking but also motivated them to discover the inner objective laws from superficial phenomenons. During this class, a seed of curiosity was sowed in the bottom of their hearts, and in the future, it would guide them to work hard, explore the unknown, go for the truths, simultaneously, find the beauty of maths.
Arts Festival: Enjoy the Happy Time Together
“I still am the one I used to be, never change it from begin. Whenever the time moves on the faith inside my heart never fade away.”In order to strengthen the patriotism, reinforce the education of traditional culture and push forward the construction of the countryside, the team members prepared an arts festival of the relevant content, which contained the dance “You Look So Nice When You Smile”, the song“Juvenile”, the chorus “My Homeland and I”and the recitation “The Floating Party Flag”. Besides the happiness, this activity also brought them the conviction as well as the spirit of Chinese Communist Party.

At the end of the event, the kids and the team members gave us a chorus “My Homeland and I”, which was the goodbye ceremony of this activity. The children lingered on leaving because of reluctance, and our students as well. However, they eventually waved their hands and said goodbye with tear in their eyes.
Wu Xiaohua told us that she was fairly happy with the company of the team members, at the same time, she has gained lots of knowledge in the classes, which included the use of Rubik’s cube and jigsaw puzzle. During the interview, she also conveyed her determination to turn her hometown into a better place. Finally, she hoped that the team members would give them classes again in the future. One of the participants, Yuan Ruixiang, said: “This tour would become an unforgettable event. There, I have acquired the friendships, teaching experience, pleasure as well as these touched moments. From now on, I would devote myself into this kinds of public benefit activities, to carry out the character of selflessness, meanwhile, to make China a better place.”

“Homeland of Hope”, sow the seed of hope for children living in the countryside. When we look ahead, the seeds would burst out of the soil, thrive in the light of strive and finally turn into giant trees. Furthermore, Jing Cheng’s Red Dream Summer Social Practice Team would continue their voluntary work in the front line, to contribute to the public education business of our country.
